ABOUT

Sono Giorgia Melagrana, artista e modella italiana con il cuore in Inghilterra, il mio spirito è libero. Nasco a Fano nel 1990, ma cresco al Passo del Furlo, un piccolo paese che è anche Riserva Naturale in provincia di Pesaro Urbino dove i miei genitori hanno uno storico ristorante. Sono cresciuta con loro, ma anche i clienti del ristorante hanno lasciato un piccolo segno in me in quanto ho passato la mia infanzia nelle sale del ristorante. Da mio padre ho ereditato la grazia e l’eleganza, da mia madre la forza e l’adattabilità. Quando avevo all’incirca 11 anni sognavo di studiare al DAMS, l’università del teatro, dell’arte e del cinema ed è quello che effettivamente  ho fatto, mentre lavoravo come modella in giro per l’Italia e all’estero. Ho sempre avuto una grande attitudine per l’arte, il design e la moda. Ho iniziato a dipingere principalmente per me, poi ho appeso qualche quadro nelle grandi sale del ristorante, ed eccomi qui a scrivere di me.
Sono cresciuta con la convinzione che la bellezza è un concetto che ritroviamo nella vita, nelle parole e nell’arte. Ho frequentato l’istituto d’arte scuola del libro ad Urbino, un’incredibile città storica, intrisa di cultura. Mi sono poi trasferita a Bologna e ho frequentato il DAMS: dipartimento di Arte, Musica e spettacolo. Sono sempre stata attratta dall’arte, l’immagine secondo me è un grande medium per comunicare. A tutto questo si è aggiunto il mio amore per il cinema che mi ha portata negli ultimi anni a ideare e ad organizzare, il “Festival Internazionale del Cinema NatuRurale”, festival in cui, con i docu-film che proiettiamo, vogliamo portare luce su tematiche ambientali, alla sostenibilità e all’importanza di preservare la bellezza che ci circonda, tema che riporto anche sulle mie tele. A livello pittorico, le prime sperimentazioni su tela sono nate tra il 2011 e 2012, amo i colori acrilici che hanno una presa immediata, ma utilizzo anche pigmenti naturali ( ossido di ferro, polvere di malachite, verde giada..) con cui creo le mie tonalità personalizzate.
Ciao, hello, I am Giorgia Melagrana, Italian artist and model, my heart is in England, my spirit is free. I was born in Fano on the Adriatic Coast of Italy in 1990, a town that dates from the days of the Roman Empire, but I grew up and discovered my future in my parents’ historical restaurant nearby Furlo, which is a small village set in a deep gorge at the centre of a wonderful nature reserve. Throughout my childhood, I roamed the restaurant and talked to people who stirred my imagination and set alight my fascination for art and life. When I was 11 years old, I suddenly understood that I had inherited my mother’s strength and wisdom, and my father’s grace and elegance. I always had a great attitude towards arts, design and fashion. I initially started to paint for myself, then I hung up some of my paintings in the restaurant and now I am pleased to write about them, and because they knew that I loved art from a very young age, my parents told me that as soon as I was old enough, I should study art, music, and performing arts at the DAMS University in Bologna (one of the oldest in the world). On a pictorial level, the first experiments on canvas were born between 2011 and 2012, i love acrylic colors which have an immediate hold on the canvas, but i also use natural pigments (iron oxide, malachite powder, jade green..) with which i create my custom shades.

When I was 18, I decided to progress from drawings and clay models, to pottery and full-sized canvasses, and I am proud to say that those canvasses are still on the walls of my parents’ restaurant. Then when I was 21, I started using acrylics because I like the way acrylic paint grips the canvas, having grown up with the passionate belief that beauty can be captured in life, words, and art, i was soon studying at the art school “Scuola del libro” in Urbino. Then, I moved to Bologna to fulfil my childhood dream of studying at DAMS University and i also became an international fashion model.

In my travels, I have visited many places around the world, i have seen places in Europe, America, Asia that have enriched my love of art and form, now i am believing that images can be a powerful way of communication, i use my instinct, my spontaneity, and my personality to create art on canvas and in clay.

On my journeys, I also discovered a love for cinema, a love that leads to the creation of the ”Festival Internazionale del Cinema NatuRurale” A festival featuring ambient themes to capture the environment surrounding us. And exploring nature, sustainability, and the need to preserve the beauty that surrounds us.

ISPIRAZIONE

Le mie fonti di ispirazione sono diverse: i viaggi, la natura, le persone, ma l’ingrediente principale della mia arte è l’introspezione e la continua voglia di conoscere me stessa.  Quando dipingo e creo sono connessa alla mia energia profonda, non esiste né passato, né futuro, ma solo il momento della creazione e questo è ciò che conta e ciò che ha valore nella mia visione. La mia è una pittura gestuale dato che lavoro molto con le mani e pochissimi attrezzi, mi piace toccare concretamente, sentire e generare così l’opera. Altra fonte d’ispirazione è sempre stata la performance artist Marina Abramovic, il suo lavoro esplora le relazioni tra l’artista e il pubblico, e il contrasto tra i limiti del corpo e le possibilità della mente. Quello della mente è un mondo che studio con passione, i limiti che ci poniamo, le possibilità che creiamo, come ci esprimiamo, per me si tratta di crescita personale, di continua ricerca e anche di abbattimento di barriere che sono anche quelle personali e sociali.

My sources of inspiration are different: travel, nature, people, but the main ingredient of my art is the introspection and the continuous desire to know myself. When i am connected to my energy and live in the present. Let’s say that when I am connected to my energy, the paintings of Giorgia Melagrana get born in a very fluid way: abstract forms, penetration and overlay of colours, which together are an expression of a state of mind and a unique and new form of language. My painting is my signature, I mainly work with my hands and only few tools. I like to concretely touch, feel and generate the piece of art in this way. 

Another source of inspiration has always been the performance artist Marina Abramovic, whose work explores the relations between the artist, the public, the contrast between the limits of the body and the possibilities of the mind. The mind is a world I study with passion, the limits we are setting ourselves, the possibilities we are creating, the way we are expressing ourselves. For me these are a part of personal growth, continuous research and also abatement of barriers, which can be personal and social.
